About Us

Tender Funerals is a community run not-for-profit funeral service ensuring everyone, particularly people experiencing financial hardship/distress, can access personalised, meaningful and affordable funerals. The Tender model was first established in Port Kembla in 2016. A second site in the Mid North Coast open in 2022.  Canberra is set to become operational in 2023 with the aim to bring affordable, meaningful funerals to the people of Canberra, Queanbeyan, Yass, Cooma, Braidwood, Bungendore, Goulburn and surrounds.   We are also focused on providing death literacy.

Every person is unique, and their funeral should reflect this. We will provide a range of services across after death care, funeral/celebration arrangements and body disposal options – many based on sustainable principles – which enable you to have a much greater say in how your loved one is treated after death.

We encourage practices that promote healing, including participating in any aspects of the funeral processes. For example, you could choose to wash and dress your person and/or take charge of the funeral service. For those who want to participate in these and other last significant rites, it can be an enriching and life-affirming experience. Or, should you prefer, we can care for your loved one on your behalf.

How your donation will help

The Tender team is raising funds to establish our service. Funds will be used to secure and fit out our site and two vehicles, and to procure the required paraphernalia and enable us to become operational.
