About Us
Building thriving communities with men serving men; Healthy Men, Healthy Masculinities, Healthy Communities
The Men’s Table creates a uniquely safe environment for men to openly share their lives and challenges with a group of men they learn to trust and respect. This approach creates belonging, community, peer support, and camaraderie lacking for many men. Belonging to a Men's Table contributes to mental, emotional and social well-being whilst being a powerful support to individual members negotiating life challenges.
The Men's Table is a preventive strategy, promoting the health and well-being of members throughout their life journey. Prioritising peer support seeks to help men before things get too tough. The program provides a sustainable, low-cost approach to health promotion and prevention for men, integrating various cultures and supporting long-term community building and resilience.
How your donation will help
Many men are lonely, disconnected and don't have a safe place to talk openly. These include Mental Health and Suicide Risk, Social Disconnection, loneliness and lack of meaningful friendships, and the masculine norms that restrict men from sharing feelings, seeking help and building community. Whilst the evidence is stark, we hear it first hand at Men's Tables. Here are some quotes;
"I sit on the couch watching TV and listen to my wife organising her social life."
"After my divorce, I found myself alone again."
"I moved here from interstate and have found it hard to make friends."
"I'm lonely. I've got mates, but we just talk about footy and shit."
This project will see the formation and ongoing support of our Men's Tables within the Canberra and Surrounding Region, attracting local male residents and workers, and helping them establish enduring communities of men.
This project will address social isolation and loneliness for men, benefit mental well-being and build communities for the long term. The evidence-based impact on men flows onto their families, workplaces and lives.
