About Us

The Zonta Club of Canberra Breakfast (ZCCB) is part of Zonta International, a philanthropic organisation that through service and advocacy, aims to improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women, thus building a better world for women and girls.

ZCCB is a diverse group of enthusiastic members of all ages who volunteer their time and skills. Club activities that support our local community include:

  • providing Home Starter Packs to women and families to help them rebuild their lives after family and domestic violence;
  • making breast cushions to support women and men recovering from breast cancer;
  • awarding scholarships to young mothers to complete their secondary educationand to young girls with an interest in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths);
  • awarding scholarships to female PhD students at the ANU Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics;
  • working with Birthing KitFoundation Australia to provide clean birthing kits for women giving birth in developing countries; and
  • participating in the 16 days of Activism through the ‘Zonta Says No to Violence Against Women’ campaign, including combining with Rotary Club of Canberra Burley Griffin to ring the Peace Bell in Nara Peace Park to honour the women, children and men who have died as a result of family violence in the past year.

How your donation will help

Your donation, together with the funds raised through our annual Pre Loved Fashion Sale and Art Show, will go towards providing Home Starter Packs, breast cushion materials, scholarships and buying the contents for the several thousand Birth Kits we pack annually.

Sadly, we are seeing a rapid rise in the number of women and their families requiring basic essentials to set up a home after experiencing family and domestic violence. These women may have waited many months in a refuge to move into permanent public housing and often they have nothing with which to set up their new life for themselves and their children.

Each home starter pack contains crockery, cutlery, a kettle, a microwave, toaster, saucepans, frypans, kitchen utensils, a vacuum cleaner, bed linen, towels.  In addition, new, age-appropriate books for any children the women may have to help improve their literacy skills and to feel valued during such a difficult time.

We are very grateful to the Canberra community for supporting our many initiatives to build a better world for women and girls.
