About Us
Founded in Aranda in 2019, Lids4Kids is a grass-roots, 100% volunteer project which has rescued over 30 million plastic bottle lids from landfill and our environment. Right now we are turning drink and milk lids from the ACT into rainbow kindness benches, picnic tables, toys, blocks and 100s of other items. Each item is 100% recycled and 100% recyclable up to 8 times which keeps each lid out of landfill for 120-160 years!
Every lid is recused and processed by hand by our passionate volunteers; including ACT school students, parents, seniors, people with a disability, and community groups. Volunteers carefully collect, donate, wash, dry, colour-sort, and polymer-sort the lids ready for processing.
In February 2023 we opened the ACT's first small plastics recycling and education centre. There ACT residents and school groups can have a hands-on learning experience in what it takes to recycle small items.
How your donation will help
The Rainbow Kindness Bench is Lids4Kids ACT's first product made exclusively from ACT lids. Made by hand on a plastic extruder each bench uses 15 000 lids and many hours of volunteer labour.
The extruder we've had on loan is due back to Melbourne in March so we need to buy our own! The funds raised as part of the Canberra Day Appeal are crucial to raising the $16 000 needed for this project.
A big thank you to our Supporters
