Cerebral Palsy Alliance supports around 400 babies, children, and adults with disability and their families, from across Canberra each year. Cerebral Palsy Alliance offers a range of therapies and supports, including:

• Early childhood intervention for babies and young children, harnessing the period of highest development and growth to improve lifelong outcomes
• Speech pathology, including using technology and devices to communicate and support with eating and drinking
• Occupational therapy for fine and gross motor development
• Physiotherapy to reduce pain, develop mobility and improve posture
• Equipment, aids and technology to make daily living more manageable, and
• Sports programs for fitness, fun, and well-being

We support people living with disability to live the most independent, inclusive lives possible.

Cerebral palsy is the most common physical disability in childhood, affecting one in every 700 babies born in Australia each year. Cerebral palsy is caused by an injury to a baby’s developing brain during pregnancy or shortly after birth, and affects movement, posture and muscle tone. One in three children with cerebral palsy are unable to walk, one in four are unable to talk, and almost all experience pain.

The more we can learn about people living with cerebral palsy, the better we can research the causes, prevention and cure of cerebral palsy, and develop strategies to enhance the lives of babies, children and adults living with cerebral palsy, and their families.

The ACT Cerebral Palsy Register is a confidential research database of information about people living with cerebral palsy in the ACT. This crucial register collects specific information about individuals with cerebral palsy, providing a rich data resource to support research and intervention strategies, to enhance the lives of people with cerebral palsy and their families.
