HOME in Queanbeyan
HOME in Queanbeyan is a community based response to provide a home for people with chronic mental illness who struggle to live independently or may be at risk of homelessness: a place where people can live with the dignity and love they deserve. First and foremost HOME is a place of friendship- a place that counters the isolation and loneliness that too often goes hand in hand with mental illness. HOME provides 24 hour pastoral care through supported accommodation and residents are encouraged to live active, fulfilling lives within their community. Residents live in self-contained one bedroom units and have access to a communal dining/living area. We recognise that people need more than just a house and meals, but regular loving care and support too, a HOME.
HOME does not receive any ongoing Government Funding, its income is generated from residents paying rent, donations and fundraising events. We advocate to government on social policy, encourage individuals and groups to take action, and provide capacity building services and resources to community organisations. We do all this with support and input from our membership.
