About Us

Zonta is an international organisation that aims to empower women through service and advocacy. Zonta Celebrated 100 years in 2019, and its membership includes thousands of women (and men) worldwide. Zonta International and the Zonta Club of Canberra Breakfast are proudly non-partisan and non-sectarian.

Zonta Club of Canberra Breakfast Inc, is a group of members, aged 18 to 65+, who have diverse backgrounds and skills. Members come together to empower women through Service and Advocacy.

Our club activities that support the community include providing home starter kits to woman and families to help them rebuild after family and domestic violence, making breast cushions to support women recovering from breast cancer, providing scholarships to young mums and young girls with an interest in STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Maths), supporting female PhD students at the Research School of Astronomy & Astrophysics and other scholarships that support women. We also work with Birthing Kits Australia to provide clean birthing kits for women giving birth in developing countries.

How your donation will help

We are seeing a rapid rise in the number of women and their families requiring basic essentials to set up a home after experiencing family and domestic violence. Often the wait in refuges can be months - or even years. And when they do move into permanent public housing, often they have nothing.

Each one of our home start kits provides essentials that help a woman, and her family, set up house. Each kit contains essential items such as plates and bowls, knives and forks, a kettle, a microwave or vacuum cleaner, toaster saucepans, frypans, mugs, glasses, kitchen utensils and linen and towels.

Not only is the demand for these home starter kits increasing, but the cost of items - due to supply chain issues and inflationary pressures - is also rising. We would be grateful for your help to help more people in our community. We also provide books to young children, and we would especially welcome funding to enable us to provide more. Not only does it help provide a sense of home for children and help them deal with their trauma, but it also helps with literacy as well.
