Radio1RPH is a community radio broadcaster based in Canberra.  We are an independent not for profit organisation that provides a radio reading service for people with print disabilities such as people who are vision impaired, have literacy issues, or have a condition that hinders reading.  The station is run by volunteers and seeks to provide an efficient information and entertainment service that engages and empowers people and delivers a diverse range of programming that is appealing and informative. It is a central community resource that aims to integrate people with reading disabilities with the rest of the Canberra community.  It has 216 registered volunteers and involves about 70 volunteers a week either participating in a direct reading of newspapers on in the presentation of special interest programs. 

How the funds will be used

Funds which you donate will support the work of the station.  It is estimated that more than 5000 residents of the ACT live with a print disability caused by vision, cognitive, physical or literacy impairment.  1RPH services empower all Canberrans to participate in the community’s political, cultural and social life.  1RPH was set up 35 years ago to meet an information deprivation need identified within the community,  1RPH is an efficient organisation run by volunteers which has been struggling to survive since the ACT Government withdrew more than $45,000 worth of annual funding. It depends on donations to continue with its work.
