About Us

Fortem Australia is a not-for-profit organisation that supports first responder families. Our first responders protect and defend our communities, and their families and kinship groups support them to do so. The work they do is vitally important, but it is also often confronting, traumatic and dangerous. We believe that first responders, and their families, deserve to be connected with the support they need now and into the future. Fortem Australia aims to support first responder families to proactively look after their wellbeing and mental fitness. We focus on building mental fitness and boosting wellbeing through a range of evidence-based services and programs, including wellbeing activities, clinical support services, online toolkits and resource library, plus a transition and employment program.

How your donation will help

We’re raising money to keep supporting Canberra first responder families with clinical support and wellbeing activities to ensure the best possible health and wellbeing outcomes for first responder families. Why? Half of all first responders are deeply impacted by the trauma they face in the course of their duties. 1 in 3 experience a high level of psychological distress from trauma experienced on the job. We firmly believe no first responder, or their family, should have their mental health negatively impacted simply for protecting and caring for their community.
